Challenges & Initiatives

Hurricane Ian – A defining moment from previous hurricane seasons creating millions of dollars in storm debris removal and a wake-up call to University Park.  Future budget planning will necessitate reserves dedicated to expected future storm cleanups, beginning in 2024.

New Gate System – Multiple neighborhood chairs volunteered to assist with the affixing of over two thousand new headlight decals to residents’ vehicles.  The long-awaited new gate systems are now operational at all three gate locations.

CCRs – An arduous five-year process led by Board Treasurer, Pat Thompson, and Assistant Board Secretary, Jennifer Everingham, with so much help from the association’s general counsel after turnover is culminating in a neighborhood chair vote at a Special Voting Member Meeting being held on August 14, 2023 by a weighted vote of the number of lot owners per neighborhood.  A special “thank you” to all of the volunteers who have spent a great deal of their personal time working on this project over the past five years, as well as the neighborhood chairs whose continued support is invaluable! 

Rental Periods – Active neighborhood chair participation to alter the minimum period in which a lot owner may rent their home from thirty (30) to ninety (90) days took place over multiple meetings.  These meetings were the forum for lot owners to present their diverse opinions to the Chair Council, as well as the Board of Directors.

Chair Council Manual, “Quick Reference Guide” (QRG) and New Chair Training – A Chair Council sub-committee was formed by Rich Tennenbaum to completely revamp the Chair Council Manual with representation from the board and selected neighborhood chairs.  The final document will be issued before September 2023 along with the updated QRG.  Both documents will be available on the web page titled, “Community Forms & Guides,” with copies being printed for all neighborhood chairs.  Per usual, our thanks to former Chair of the Chair Council, Kris Pizzi, for heading up the new chair training this summer.

Volunteerism – The Chair Council, and its neighborhood committee members, depend upon the expertise and knowledge of our neighbors to continue to volunteer in our neighborhood committees.  They are the future of University Park!
